The COVID-19 Vaccine is Here. What Does That Mean for Those with a History of Allergic Reaction?

The COVID-19 vaccine has arrived in the states. If you have a history of allergic reactions, here’s what you need to know.

According to an article published by CBS News, "British health officials have warned that people with a history of 'significant' allergic reactions to vaccines, medicine or food should not be given Pfizer's COVID-19 vaccine." While the overall incident rate of adverse reactions is low, there have been reports of such reactions following the vaccine's arrival and distribution in the United States. The past few weeks have marked rapid progress for the COVID-19 vaccine, but recent headlines have raised red flags for individuals with a history of severe allergic reactions.

If you suffer from allergies, are considering the vaccine (or both) - here's are a few things you should know ahead of your appointment:

  1. The CDC recommends that patients with a history of anaphylactic reactions need to be monitored for 30 minutes following the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine. It's recommended that all other patients be observed for 15 minutes after vaccination.

  2. Many physicians are still recommending the vaccine. While we are not offering individual medical advice in the blog post, it's crucial to consult with your trusted physician to determine if this vaccine is right for you.

  3. Patients should consider allergy testing ahead of vaccination. It's often only once a patient is experiencing adverse reactions when they discover that they are suffering from an allergy.

If you're looking for a proven, pain-free, and trusted allergy test to administer to your patients, the AllergiEnd® System is the solution for you.

Test in your office, get results in under 20 minutes.
